Pathway to Leadership: Manual

Pathway to Leadership - coverPathway To Leadership: Manual

This is the path to small group leadership at Real Life Ministries. We believe that servant leadership is at the heart of ministry and this pathway is the beginning of that journey.

The purpose of this process is to bring clarity and intentionality to those who believe they are called into a servant leadership position as a small group leader. Many of us lead by instinct or intuition, but in order to have a reproducible process and take others with us, we need to have a clear pathway that we can live out, reproduce and pass on.

Jesus walked among us so that we could get close enough to hear, see, touch and know him. Jesus showed us the only way to make disciples is to invite others into our lives joining us on a relational journey. We cannot overemphasize the role of God’s part in this Pathway to Leadership. Please be in continual prayer as you allow God to lead the way. (Remember...unless you add the Holy Spirit and relationship into this process...this will be just a manual.). We want to make carpenters, not nail pounders with an instruction manual.

Come, follow Me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” - Matthew 4:19

Remember: You need to have an ongoing discipleship relationship before you take an apprentice through the “Pathway to Leadership” manual.

There are two key parts to reproducing a leader.

  1. They have to know that you love them first (relationship).
  2. We need to train them and walk with them through a discipleship process (intentional leadership).

The tension we always face is, as leaders we usually are stronger in one of these areas: “We love them well but don’t intentionally lead them” or “We are always training them but they don’t know we love them.”

As you lead an apprentice through this Pathway to Leadership book please remember to...Have a big heart - But bring along your head”

Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, ”All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything i have commanded you. And surely i am with you always, to the very end of the age.”  - Matthew 28:16-20
